GABRIEL - Strength

Gabriel - The messenger angel.

'God is my strength'. Strength (power) of God, herald and servitor of Divine almightiness (Dan 8:16, Lk 1:26). Gabriel appears to the prophet Daniel to explain his visions. He is the archangel who also appears in the Book of Enoch. The Gospel of Luke relates the stories of the Annunciation, in which the angel Gabriel appears to Zechariah and the Virgin Mary, foretelling the births of John the Baptist and Jesus, respectively (Luke 1:11–38).

Mission

Then the voice which I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, "Go, take the scroll which is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land."

So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll; and he said to me, "Take it and eat; it will be bitter to your stomach, but sweet as honey in your mouth."

And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it; it was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter.

And I was told, "You must again prophesy about many peoples and nations and tongues and kings."

Behold, I send an angel before you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place which I have prepared.

Give heed to him and hearken to his voice, do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression; for my name is in him.

But if you hearken attentively to his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

When my angel goes before you, and brings you in to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Per'izzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jeb'usites, and I blot them out.
